10 Magnet Facts and Information

Ten Facts About Magnetism
  • The Magnets produce an area of magnetic force called a magnetic field. A coil of wire with an electric current flowing through it becomes a magnet. Putting iron inside a current-carrying coil increases the strength of the electromagnet. The Magnetic fields of a magnet are invisible to the human eye. A changing magnetic field induces an electric voltage in a conductor.

  • Iron filings can be used to show magnetic fields created by magnets. The Magnets has attracts certain types of metals and other materials like as glass, plastic and wood are not attracted. Metals like iron, nickel and cobalt are attracted to magnets.

  • Most metals are not attracted to the magnets; these include copper, silver, gold, magnesium, platinum, aluminum and more others. They can magnetize a small amount while placed in a magnetic field. Magnetism can attract magnetic objects or push them away.

  • The World Health Organization published a study in the 1987, in which, that did away with the notion that magnets in the strengths used for the therapeutic uses have any detrimental effect on the human body.

  • The Magnets having a magnetic south pole and a magnetic north pole. If the same poles of two magnets are placed near each other, they repel (push away), while different poles are placed near each other, they will attract (pull together).

  • The Magnets can prevent old age: Studies have shown that a house-fly’s life span could be doubled and a rat’s life-span increased by about 45persent through the use of magnets. Dr. Maclean (The American gynecologist) has found that magnets not only prevent grey of hair, but in some cases the hair was restored to its original color.

  • The Earth's core is believed to be a mixture or alloy of the iron and nickel metals, giving the Earth its own magnetic field.

  • The Earth's magnetic field is responsible for deflecting the solar wind, charged particles that come from the Sun. Magnetic compasses use the Earth's magnetic field to help navigate in north, south, east and west directions.

  • Electromagnets are created by an electric current running through a surrounding of a coil. They have many uses. The generation of electricity with the help of hydroelectric dams is a best example. Magnets can be used to decrease the white cell blood count which cause increases in most diseases.

  • The Scientists was determined by the study of ocean floor core samples, that higher vertebrates like dinosaurs died-out due to magnetic field declines. When the magnetic poles of the earth ‘changed places’ the magnetic field may have dropped to 0. Fluctuations in the earth’s magnetic field caused by magnetic storms (which occur on the sun) can adversely affect the health of living things.
